Sorry for the long wait

I will post something this week along with pictures. I have been working on a lot of things.

Converted and painted a new Daemon Prince using the plastic Balrog along with an assortment of bitz; working on a new display board since the old one is getting beat up; painting my new Chaos Knights and Horsemen to replace the older models in my new list; and working on a 40K game table for the Hobbytown in Charlotte.

Something wicked this way comes...

I know some of you are trying to dip. Here is something I wrote up for Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum for my Mordheim Undead Warband.

Here are step by step instructions on how I painted my ghould using the dip method. These 4 ghouls took less than 20 minutes to paint, then after dipping I let them dry overnight before hitting with a matte spray. In fact it would have been quicker per model if I did a larger batch as I had to wait for the paint to dry.

Here are the ghouls and zombies after being assembled. I put the gravel/flock mix on before priming. I will do the zombie tutorial later as I used a brown primer on them.


Here are the ghouls after being primed along with the paints used. Notice my ultra fine sharpie pen. Works gret for eyeballs and any freehand work.


Ghouls being basecoated with Rotting Flesh and the bases painted with a watered down generic black paint. I think AP has a Rotting Flesh primer if you want to skip painting it on.


Hair was painted with the dark grey foundation paint adeptus grey (i think)


Bones, teeth and eyeballs were painted skull white. Eyes dotted using Sharpie Pen.


Straps painted Desert Yellow (which I really like when using the stain)


Chain painted grey, then Boltgun Metal


Then AP Strong Tone was brushed onto the ghouls. I use a thin coat, as anymore just pools up.

Ghouls were then based and hit with a Matte Spray. Photos were taken outdoors in natural light which shows all flaws.

It's been awhile

Sorry I haven't updated this blog in about a month, but I have been painting. In the past 3 weeks I painted an entire 2250 Wood Elf army for a tournament this weekend. To get this army done I employed the famous "dip" method.


All the Elves and Treekin/Treeman were primed using army painter leather brown primer. They were then basecoated with very few highlights, and then I painted on Army Painter strong tone. After waiting a few seconds I removed any obvious puddling of the dip. I then sprayed a dull coat over them to remove the shine.

They aren't my best paint jobs, but I am proud of them and a firm believer in the dip method. As usual there a few mold lines and areas that I "went out of the lines" on so please ignore those and remember I just want tabletop quality figs that look good from 3 feet away.

Paints used - Basic trooper - Leather Brown Primer/Catachan Green (cloaks)/Snot Green/Desert Yellow (hair and straps)/Terracotta/Dwarf Flesh and Bleached Bone (bows).



Glade Riders - Same as trooper. Horses were primed white with desert yellow for the manes. The tattoos were done using an ultra fine sharpie with green or blue.




Treekin/treeman - Primed brown/highlighted with Graveyard Dirt & Kommando Khaki before dip. Snot green for leaves. Used old treemen models for the Treekin and a LotR Ent for my Treeman.



Alter Lord - Used the Eternal Guard champion model and did a basic weapon swap for the bow.

Big and Ugly

Today are some photos of my Chaos Ogres. I do have an entire Ogre Kingdoms army painted up, but needed some to look a little chaosy. The horns are from the Chaos Marauder standard cut up. Nothing fancy.

Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger

Here is another army I have been working on for years. Keep meaning to finish the Lizardmen, since I have all the Core troops painted. Here is my lovely Slann, now maybe I can finish the rest of the army.

Aces High

Last Saturday I played in a 2250 Fantasy tournament here at the Cage in High Point, NC and with some favorable luck, yours truly came in first overall. It felt good since I hadn't won an overall since 2002, and that was a 40K RTT.

I was lucky with my pairings and played three really great opponents. It was nice to see 22 fantasy players from as far away as Wilmington, NC show up.

First game vs Billy and his O&G wasn't close, but that was because I have never seen someone whose dice failed them at all the wrong times. Between animosity and Pump wagons going 2" (when it was 4" away), your dice should only be used for Ld tests. I think Billy really needs to throw those dice away.

Second game vs Paul's Empire was a very close draw with VP only 4 points apart. My saving grace was putting 4 wounds on a Stank and destroying a War Altar with one shot from a Hellcannon in turn 5.

Third game vs Chris's HE's was very close to the end. If his two wizards didn't fail a terror test and run it would probably have been a draw. It isn't often a Hellcannon can take 49 hits from HE spearmen without taking a single wound.

Number of the Beasts

Just a quick post today of some old figs I painted up years ago and just recently touched up to update the bases and some highlights. Spawn on left is Scyla and the one on the right is the Skaven special character Boneripper (I think) with an old Bloodthirster head stuck on it.

I am playing in a local 2250 tournament tomorrow, and switched around my army list at the last moment. I usually don't like doing that, but we'll see how it goes. Bringing my basic infantry list toned down to get an extra sorcerer since I know magic will be rampant.
