Big and Ugly

Today are some photos of my Chaos Ogres. I do have an entire Ogre Kingdoms army painted up, but needed some to look a little chaosy. The horns are from the Chaos Marauder standard cut up. Nothing fancy.

Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger

Here is another army I have been working on for years. Keep meaning to finish the Lizardmen, since I have all the Core troops painted. Here is my lovely Slann, now maybe I can finish the rest of the army.

Aces High

Last Saturday I played in a 2250 Fantasy tournament here at the Cage in High Point, NC and with some favorable luck, yours truly came in first overall. It felt good since I hadn't won an overall since 2002, and that was a 40K RTT.

I was lucky with my pairings and played three really great opponents. It was nice to see 22 fantasy players from as far away as Wilmington, NC show up.

First game vs Billy and his O&G wasn't close, but that was because I have never seen someone whose dice failed them at all the wrong times. Between animosity and Pump wagons going 2" (when it was 4" away), your dice should only be used for Ld tests. I think Billy really needs to throw those dice away.

Second game vs Paul's Empire was a very close draw with VP only 4 points apart. My saving grace was putting 4 wounds on a Stank and destroying a War Altar with one shot from a Hellcannon in turn 5.

Third game vs Chris's HE's was very close to the end. If his two wizards didn't fail a terror test and run it would probably have been a draw. It isn't often a Hellcannon can take 49 hits from HE spearmen without taking a single wound.

Number of the Beasts

Just a quick post today of some old figs I painted up years ago and just recently touched up to update the bases and some highlights. Spawn on left is Scyla and the one on the right is the Skaven special character Boneripper (I think) with an old Bloodthirster head stuck on it.

I am playing in a local 2250 tournament tomorrow, and switched around my army list at the last moment. I usually don't like doing that, but we'll see how it goes. Bringing my basic infantry list toned down to get an extra sorcerer since I know magic will be rampant.

Run to the Hills

Today's latest installment of my mad posse is of course the heavy hitters themselves, and everyone's worst nightmare... Chaos Knights. One of, if not, the best cavalry units in the game.

To aid them in rounding up all those who do try and run to the hills are the Marauder Horsemen. Here I use two units, one armed with flails and the newer figures, and one unit of the older figs using Spears.

The Troopers

I have over 40 of the new chaos warriors painted and about 50 of the old hunchback ones too. Here is how I usually arm them. With a good old hand weapon and shield. They then become the terminators of the Old World. My basic armor paint job involves just the Foundation Red along with the OOP Chestnut Ink. When I found out they were going to discontinue Chestnut Ink I immediately ran out and bought up the last bottles around here.

I also converted up a unit of 13 Chosen using the lances from two Chaos Knight boxes. For the command I used the metal Chosen command.

Now all good troopers need to fight over something. I picked up the Throne of Skulls, which looks just fantastic. Four of the large skulls need to be attached and the two still standing obelisks. I painted it up fairly quickly with some drybrushing. I mistakenly used Brass instead of Bronze to paint so the drybrush was harsher than I wanted, but it still works. I then painted the details and added some extra flock and static grass to some areas.

Game wise this is great for 40K, for Fantasy I think it works better as a large building than as a hill.

Hail to the Gods of Chaos

Today I am posting photos of my warshrine I made before the WoC book came out. The basis is two spawn carrying around a portable shrine with a respected Champion (Harry the Hammer) surveying the field of battle to determine where the Chaos Gods should look.

The base of the shrine is the base that came with Harry. The dais is a dental floss container glued to it. I then attached spiky bitz from the chaos sprue for some extra touches as well as an old brazier that was lying around. Harry is not attached so I can always use him as a champion on foot.

I really like how this came out. In the game I use the Mark of Khorne on the warshrine and have him sit behind my large infantry line buffing my Chosen unit.
