Off to Brawler Bash VII tomorrow

It is time for another Brawler Bash!  I am bringing my Slaanesh DoC to the fight again this year.  This time I did drop my initial mono list to add a Skull Cannon and a Beast of Nurgle.  I will try and get a write up for each of my battles, but I never remember to take any photos.

Speaking of photos here is my army, the Fury movement trays have since been finished to match the rest of the army.  I hope you all like.
I got the Fury movement trays from Hollow Tree Studios, cheap and I think they look great.
The name plate also came from Hollow Tree, he helped design it.
The whole gang again this time with the Keeper perched overlooking his minions.

Grail Quest this Weekend!

This weekend is Grail Quest at Atomic Empire in Durham, NC.  This year it is a 6-game 2-day event run by the Bull City Wargaming Podcast's duo of Ben and Tom.  They run my favorite GT, Brawler Bash, in the Spring.

Info for the event is here: http://www.warnc.com/showthread.php?tid=295

While I was away in SC on business a couple of weeks ago I finally got some painting done.  The photos were taken in my hotel room with my IPhone.
I was challenged by Tom Game 1, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we have pushed it forward to Friday if the planets align.  Here is a photo of the model I made of Tom.  It captures that fierce British bravery.  Notice the Red coat and there is a certain stain on the backside.  The base has since been finished with some grass clumps in the cracks along with the white's of his eyes.

 My Keeper of Secrets has finally been highlighted (took me only 6 months).  I also changed out the base since this photo was taken.  I was told my bases were too bland at BB (Thanks Ian), so I bought a bunch from Forgecraft Games.  Eventually I will have a display board that will match, but that will all have to wait until Brawler Bash.  The base type can be seen below (I add some wasteland tufts in the cracks and barren spaces.

Below is a picture of my Slaughterbrute/Mutalith/Skull Cannon/Spined Beast.  I magnetized the heads for some variety (very easy to do with this kit) and the back piece slides in and out perfectly.  This kit is quite impressive.  I originally was going to use this as a Storm of Chaos Great Chaos Spined Beast of Slaanesh, but I like to punish myself by taking inferior builds so I changed it to a Skull Cannon.

 Finally, I got around to painting my Fiends of Slaanesh.  No photo of them painted though.  These guys are a pain in the royal rear to rank up.  I had to pin them into their bases and mark the bases or else they would never rank up.
I hope you all enjoy these pics and wish me luck.

Update from yesterday.

My start to my day of painting was delayed since my wife forgot our son's bottles and I had to drive into Daycare.  That would normally be a 40 min delay, but for some reason there was a ton of traffic and it took almost an hour for the round trip.

I get home, sit down and one of my desk lamps doesn't want to turn on.  I changed the bulb, but nothing.  Then my camera doesn't want to hold a charge so I had to take these updates on my IPhone instead, and my light I usually have behind me doesn't want to turn on.  It was as if the Gods did not want me to paint yesterday.  Sorry, these are not the greatest pictures.

9AM  to 12PM - First up, I painted the blue on 30 Daemonettes.  I need to add the yellow on all the jewelry and eyes, then after basinf they will be finished.  It took 90 minutes for the basecoat, and 90 minutes for the next 3 highlights.  Six minutes per figure so not too shabby.  I think I will need another 2 hours to finish the unit.

Then I needed to do something different so I assembled and converted up  10 Chaos Furies.  They were converted out of Tyranid Gargoyles and random Spawn parts.  These were a lot of fun to convert and I tried to make them as ludicrous and crazy looking as possible.  I am going to paint the body grey and the wing membranes, claws, and other bits blue.  The eyes and anything else that will make the model pop will be painted yellow.  I have them at random heights so they fit when ranked together.  I am going to put numbers on the bottom to make sure I do not forget.

 I opened the Keeper of Secrets box :)  You can tell it is old packaging due to the foam and the metal was slightly discolored.  I hadn't seen that foam tray in awhile.  I cleaned up the metal and remembered why I hate assembling large metal models.  I love working with plastic and resin soooo much more.  It stayed unassembled.
Over last weekend I assembled 30 Pink Horrors that I got randomly motivated to assemble since I had an idea to include a unit, so I sanded the bases and primed them.  I also primed an old Albion Fenbeast to use as a fiend.  I am going to paint him all blue and grey as well.

Score for BCW ClutterBusters Challenge : 40 assembled infantry = 10 Points!

The beatings will continue until morale improves...

…Or in this case, Motivation improves.  No more excuses!
I joined up in the Bull City Wargaming Clutterbusters Challenge, and for those that don’t know about BCW, it is the best podcast out of the state of NC.  They have proposed a way to help de-clutter those boxes of miniatures we have lying around taking up valuable space for even more miniatures.  The rules are as follows:
Starting March 1st and going to Sept. 1st, the object is to assemble and paint as much as possible.  I am going to use this to help motivate myself to get these damn Daemons finished before the Grail Quest GT in Durham, NC this summer.
Acquire = Infantry -1 pt, Monstrous Cav -2 pts, & Vehicles/Chariots/Monsters -8 pts.
Build = Infantry 0.25 pt, Monstrous Cav 1 pt, & Vehicles/Chariots/Monsters 2 pts.
Finished Painting = Infantry 1 pt, Monstrous Cav 2 pts, & Vehicles/Chariots/Monsters 8 pts.

Now I got a little surprise when I asked my good friend Rufus if he had a Keeper of Secrets lying around he wanted to sell.  I did not want to go buy one since I know a new one will be released in the next few months.  You see, Rufus is a model collector at heart, he has a case of "collectoritis" worse than most of us.  One day he might finish the 5 armies he is working on, but when he starts on one army he starts buying for 2 more.  Instead he gave me this pile of models.  I have plans for a lot of it.  I am just glad I got this bundle right before signing up for this.

All metal, all from 6th/7th edition, if the competition started the 2 weeks ago I would be at -58 points.
1 - Keeper of Secrets - It is the bull headed one, which I like.
20 - Horrors - I have 30 plastic, but I might convert into furies.
10 - Daemonettes - I will sprinkle these in with the plastic models.
5 - Screamers, I have 5 so that will my total to 10
10 - Warhounds - Can never have too many, already have 10 of the plastic ones.
5 - Fleshounds - I have 5 already, I use 3 on my OK army as Sabretusks, and I also use them as nastier warhounds in my WoC army.
Don't worry, I am buying him lunch today.  I think he deserves it.

PS - I know you only clicked on this blog for the photo :)
