Aces High

Last Saturday I played in a 2250 Fantasy tournament here at the Cage in High Point, NC and with some favorable luck, yours truly came in first overall. It felt good since I hadn't won an overall since 2002, and that was a 40K RTT.

I was lucky with my pairings and played three really great opponents. It was nice to see 22 fantasy players from as far away as Wilmington, NC show up.

First game vs Billy and his O&G wasn't close, but that was because I have never seen someone whose dice failed them at all the wrong times. Between animosity and Pump wagons going 2" (when it was 4" away), your dice should only be used for Ld tests. I think Billy really needs to throw those dice away.

Second game vs Paul's Empire was a very close draw with VP only 4 points apart. My saving grace was putting 4 wounds on a Stank and destroying a War Altar with one shot from a Hellcannon in turn 5.

Third game vs Chris's HE's was very close to the end. If his two wizards didn't fail a terror test and run it would probably have been a draw. It isn't often a Hellcannon can take 49 hits from HE spearmen without taking a single wound.

Good job and thanks go to Bobby Ash for running the event. I look forward to the next one. Below are the winners of the event.

Whipping Boy (identity hidden to protect the innocent)
Best Sportsman (Jeremiah G.- Dark Elves)
Best Painted (Anne Marie- Empire)
Best Army (Zac R.- Wood Wlves)
Best General (Ian H.- Warriors of Chaos)
Best Overall (Tony N.- Warriors of Chaos)

I didn't take any photos as I forgot I had even brought my camera, doh! I know the tournament organizer took some so I will get them posted asap. Here are some photos of my BSB mounted and on foot.

The Cage - 40K Tournament

Last weekend my gaming club, "GameOn" held our first tournament at our new location, "The Cage". As you can see from the photos it is in a chain link fenced area of a very large (250,000sf) warehouse. Owner has been kind enough to let us use a 3000sf area for free.

This 40K tournament brought 22 players from as far as Raleigh to the Triad to battle it out on our many terrain stocked tables. There were some great battles fought and a great variety of armies participated. We had Space Marines, Chaos Marines, Tyranids, Orks, Imperial Guard, and Dark Eldar.

Congrats to:

Best Overall- Scott Moore (Space Wolves)
Best General- Justin Hilderbrandt (Orks)
Best Painted- Todd Craig (Tyranids)
Best Army- Chris Hollowell (Plague Marines)
Best Sportsman- James Martin (Silver Skulls SM)
and whipping boy (name left out to protect the innocent)

Prizes were gift certificates to The Warstore.

It was an extremely close tourney with 1st and 2nd seperated by only 1 point.

Next weekend, GameOn will host a 2250 WFB tournament, and then another 40K tournament in the Fall.
